| We celebrated our centenary
in 2006. It was a very special year. It started with a Gala
Ball at Redditch Town Hall where we had over 100 past and present
members in attendance. During the proceedings two fifty year
NODA awards were presented along with others ranging from 10
to 45 years.
Our next event was the exceptional production of ‘
My Fair Lady’ at the newly refurbished Palace Theatre.
The dress rehearsal fell on the exact day of the first 1906
production and a special Anniversary cake was made y Paul
Rea one of the society’s members. The set was constructed
by our scenery team and was said to be as good as any ‘west
end’ set, it was even electrically operated moving up
and down stage.
This was followed by a ‘Ascot’ race evening ,
and the annual Bar-B-Q in a members garden. Which were both
well supported.
The year was rounded off with another Celebration Dinner
at the Redditch Town Hall this time around 70 gathered to
witness the presentation of a digital camera and printer to
the retiring President Joe Brennan by Pearl Taylor the new
President. The Chairman presented a Dovecote to the retiring
Secretary Shirley Nash who had served for five years.
It was deemed a fitting end to an exceptional year in the
society’s history.
